What is a Neurologic Physical Therapist?

ABI Resources team members take directives from Neurological Physical Therapists. A neurologic physical therapist specializes in treating individuals with neurological conditions, such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson's disease. They use physical therapy techniques and exercises to help improve movement, balance, strength, and coordination, as well as reduce pain and improve overall function. They also work closely with other healthcare professionals, such as neurologists and occupational therapists, to develop an individualized treatment plan for each patient.

There are several ways to find a neurologic physical therapist:

Ask your doctor or neurologist for a referral. They may have a list of trusted therapists they can recommend.

Check with your insurance company. Many insurance plans have a list of in-network providers, including physical therapists, that you can search through.

Search online. Websites like the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) have directories of physical therapists, including those specializing in neurologic conditions.

Ask for recommendations from friends or family members who have had experience with a neurologic physical therapist.

Once you have a list of potential therapists, it is a good idea to call their offices and ask about their experience and qualifications in treating neurologic conditions and their availability to take new patients.

It is important to note that it is always recommended to call and consult with the therapist before making an appointment and make sure they are a good fit for your needs and condition.
